What is Filter Coffee?
Filter coffee, also known as drip coffee or simply coffee, is a type of coffee brewed by passing hot water through ground coffee beans. This method of brewing coffee produces a clean, smooth, and full-bodied cup of coffee with a rich, complex flavor.
The origins of filter coffee can be traced back to the early 19th century, when German coffee merchant Ludwig Roselius discovered a method of removing caffeine from coffee beans using the solvent benzene. This decaffeinated coffee, known as Sanka, became popular in the United States in the 1920s, but it wasn't until the invention of the electric drip coffee maker in the 1950s that filter coffee really took off.
Filter coffee is made by grinding coffee beans and then placing them in a filter, typically made of paper or metal, which is then placed in a drip coffee maker. Hot water is then slowly poured over the coffee grounds, allowing the water to extract the flavors and aromas of the coffee. This process can take several minutes, depending on the amount of coffee being brewed and the desired strength of the brew.
One of the key advantages of filter coffee is its simplicity.
